How This Centre Works

Shafat Ahmad Gatoo
The Centre Facilitator is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Smartpur Centre, delivering digital and governance services, assisting beneficiaries in accessing government schemes and online services, coordinating centre activities, maintaining records, supporting programme implementation and ensuring smooth service delivery to the community.
Shafat, a simple arts graduate, lived a modest life relying on ancestral farming prior his joining as a Centre Facilitator Nokia Smartpur Project. Alongside, his cousin he sold sim cards to Amarnath yatris during the pilgrim season. Smartpur gave him a stable platform to support his family, comprising his son and wife, and tapped into his potential, making him a frontrunner in community engagement and driving positive change in his area.
Our Initiatives Transforming Lives

Community Context
Who we serve
At Smartpur Centres, we serve diverse beneficiaries through the delivery of essential services, digital literacy programs for children, combined awareness and financial literacy camps and skill-based training for men and women. We further provide home-visit support services to Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). Our interventions also reach a significant proportion of the Scheduled Tribe population.
Challenges addressed
The Centre operates in a context defined by geographic and seasonal constraints. The semi-hilly terrain, scattered habitations, and limited transport connectivity affect regular access to services, particularly for older people, women and marginalized families. Seasonal migration and movement restrictions during the annual Amarnath Yatra, due to security protocols and vehicular cut-off timings, further disrupt service delivery. To mitigate these, the Centre undertakes proactive planning, community-based outreach, and doorstep support. Through strong local partnerships and sustained mobilization, it ensures that geographic and administrative barriers do not limit access to essential services, awareness programs and livelihood opportunities.
